MMA Betting Basics

For anyone who is not used to betting on team sports, the world of MMA might seem daunting. But, with the right knowledge and understanding of the various wager types, betting on MMA fights can be both fun and profitable.

Mma betting involves a variety of different bet types, from picking the outright winner of a fight to wagering on the Method of Victory or Round Bets. Understanding how to read MMA odds, researching fighters and managing your bankroll are crucial steps in successful MMA betting.

Moneyline MMA bets are the most basic bet type, where you place a wager on either a favorite or an underdog. Favorites are indicated by a minus symbol, while underdogs are represented by a plus sign. In addition, the odds of a fighter are presented as decimal or fractional, with lower numbers reflecting a larger payout.

Over/under rounds MMA bets involve placing a wager on how many total rounds a fight will last. The over/under number is set by the sportsbook, and you can bet on whether the fight will end sooner (over) or later than that total.

Method of victory MMA bets allow you to place a wager on how the fight will end, which generally falls into three categories: KO/TKO/DQ, Submission and Decision. If a fighter knocks out his opponent, this is a KO/TKO, while if a fighter taps out their opponent in a joint lock or choke, it’s a Submission. If the fight goes the distance and the judges decide the outcome, it’s a Decision.

Round bets – also known as Round Props – are a wager on the specific round a fight will end in. The round must be completed for the bet to win. If a fight is stopped in the middle of the round, it’s a Technical Decision or Draw and your bet will lose.

Mma futures bets are a more long-term form of wagering that involves placing a bet on an event that will occur in the future, often times far in advance. While they can be a great way to increase your winnings, it’s important to remember that you’re betting on an event that could change from the moment the lines open to the night of the fight. The same is true for the fight itself, as injuries and other unforeseen circumstances may influence the outcome.

Mma parlays are a popular wagering option, where you combine multiple bets on the same fight for a greater return. These can be made on either the same fight, or on events from different matches. However, a parlay must be correct on all legs in order to receive a payout. If even one leg of the bet is incorrect, your bet will be considered a push and your stake will be refunded. You can also bet on Mma fights live, which involves placing a bet while the fight is still taking place. This is a fast-paced wagering environment and can be highly lucrative, as odds are always shifting based on the action inside the cage.
